August Update

The summer seemed to just blow by, and certain things in my life really took a back burner, including my blog. I spent this summer adjusting to changes. As most of you know, my life made a complete 180 this summer, I moved to Illinois, got married, started a new internship, and led a Bible study! These moments were beautiful, life-changing, and shaping, but they didn’t happen without a little bit of fear, and nervousness.

I started out the summer by getting married and moving to Illinois. I’ll keep this part brief because I plan on going into this amazing day more in a later post. But for those of you who came, I want to say thank you for being there and supporting Wyatt and me. We both felt so loved on our day and are so grateful to all of you. Wyatt and I both had the best day! There were so many things about that day that made it so special. Since then, we’ve both been taking the summer to adjust to married life and have stayed busy with a hundred other things as well!

I also started another Purina internship this summer, but this one was a little different. This summer I spent two months learning the ins and outs of grain merchandizing. I had the unique opportunity to work with Ursa Farmer’s Coop to learn about buying and selling grain. I learned about setting the basis, transferring grain on barges, and how to calculate different expenses to determine how a producer can be profitable. Then, later in the summer, I got back on the road to meet producers during sales calls. This internship taught me a lot, and I was excited to use many of the skills I learned in my first year of the MBA program.

When I knew I would be moving to Illinois, there were a lot of different feelings that came with it. I was excited to have the opportunity to support Wyatt and start our cattle herd. But I also had a lot of feelings about where I would fit in and how I would serve God in this new place. Fortunately, God gave me a nudge.

When I started college, a wonderful woman helped mentor me through a Bible study. It impacted my life in more ways than I can describe. While I was going through college, I knew that one day, I wanted to step into a position where I could lead and mentor girls the same way I was mentored. After some conversations with our pastor in IL, we decided that there was a need. God opened the door and helped me start a Bible study for young ladies in the area. I got to work with a great group of girls who really helped me feel more at home and helped reveal some of God’s purpose in my life.

When people ask me how my summer was, I usually describe it as “crazy”. It blew by so quickly that it was hard to keep track of everything that happened. Even though it didn’t go quite how we planned it, I know that some necessary steps were made on our path in God’s plans for us. When I look back, I know that everything that happened fits in God’s plan for our lives, even if we can’t see it right now. But it opens the door to looking forward to seeing how God will shape our lives in the future.

Now, being back at school and away from Wyatt, there’s a whole new level of “new” to work through. But we knew this was coming, and it will be over before we know it. And once again, when it’s all over, we will be able to look back and see the ways God worked in our lives.
